Monitor shows 'Input Not Supported' when you plug in a laptop or PC. Here's how to force the right resolution and refresh rate, step by step.

That "Input Not Supported" message is annoying — your screen goes black, and you think your monitor's dead. It's not. Your monitor is telling you the signal coming from your PC is outside its range. Here's how to fix it in under five minutes.

The Quick Fix: Boot into Safe Mode and Lower the Resolution

The fastest way to get your screen back is to start Windows in Safe Mode. Safe Mode loads a basic display driver at a low resolution (usually 800x600 or 1024x768), which your monitor can handle. Then you can change the settings back to something sensible.

  1. Turn off your computer completely. Press and hold the power button until it shuts down.
