Why Your RAM Isn't Getting Detected
I've seen this dozens of times. You build a fresh PC, press power, fans spin, but no display – or you get a long series of beeps from the motherboard speaker. The culprit here is almost always physical contact. New RAM slots are tight, and even a microscopic film of oil from your fingers or a bit of dust on the pins can break the connection. On top of that, some boards are picky about which slot you use first, especially with dual-channel kits. Another common cause: the RAM stick isn't fully pushed in because the latch didn't click over. You think it's in, but it's just sitting there loose.
This can also happen if you're mixing RAM sticks of different speeds or brands, or if you installed the modules in the wrong slots for your CPU's memory controller. For example, on most consumer boards (LGA1700, AM5), the first slot to populate is A2, then B2. Stick one in A1 and B1? Some boards won't even try to train the memory.
Fix Steps (in Order)
- Power down and unplug the PC. Press the power button afterward to drain residual charge from capacitors. This is important – static discharge can kill RAM.
- Remove all RAM sticks. Don't just wiggle them. Unclip the latches at both ends (if your board has them) and pull straight out.
- Check the gold pins. Look for any discoloration, corrosion, or bent pins. If they look dull, take a soft pencil eraser (the white or pink kind) and gently rub each pin pad lengthwise. Clear CMOS

Or use the clear CMOS jumper on the board – check your manual for the exact pins. This resets the memory timings to default. I've had boards that rejected RAM after a failed overclock until CMOS was cleared.
Update BIOS
Older BIOS versions, especially on early AM5 or LGA1700 boards, have known RAM compatibility issues. Check your motherboard manufacturer's support page. Download the latest BIOS onto a FAT32 USB stick, then use the BIOS flashback feature (if your board has it – look for a USB port labeled BIOS) to update without needing a CPU. Try Different Power Source
